Past Simple and USED TO

Note, that the habit or state is probably not true now:

  • They used to live in New York, but they moved to California last year.

We can always use Past Simple instead of “used to”

  • I walked my dog every morning before school (instead of “I used to walk my dog every morning before school”

We do not use “used to” for the actions that happen only once!

  • I visited the Eiffel Tower last year.
